Floors

Today they were working on the floors. The big decision is what color to stain them or to stain them at all. They are fur and the flooring guy says that fur doesn't really take stain very well, so it will blotchy. It is also not likely to the new hardwood that we added in the kitchen which is oak. Oh well so much for matching the flooring.
Here are the chooses in stain color. The flooring on the right is the new flooring . The one on the left is the old stuff. Each color was tested on both types of flooring. You can see the stains don't match very well. I am leaning toward the one on the bottom. Which is basically not staining it at all and just leaving it light.

Here are the floors with one coarse sanding. The will be sanded a couple more times. The light looks ok, right?

I took so more pictures of the rest of the house. It is a little messy, but I will take more when it get's cleaned up.

Cabinets and new floors

We added new oak hardwood floors in the kitchen. They went in before the cabinets.

Then the cabinets arrived.

Then we put the cabinets in.

We had a big debate about the counter tops.

I wanted gray quartz. Like these: http://products.daltile.com/series.cfm?series=339&item=5187&

But, ultimately we would have had a seam in the middle of the counter, so we ended up choosing the same honed black granite like the last house. We are also going to have a reclaimed wood counter top for the island. http://www.reclaimeddesignworks.com/reclaimed-products/reclaimed-boxcar-planks/

It should be very cool.

More pictures to come.

It's been awhile

My apologies for neglecting the blog. No worries though we have been doing work. We have done a lot, we put in the dry wall, put in the cabinets, tile, the bathroom fixtures, new doors and they are working on the floors next.

I have been taking pictures, so I will try to post them in order. Starting with dry wall . . .

The dining room and kitchen ceiling and the new beam that holds both up.

This was the window between the dining room and the back porch enclosure..

The washer and dryer hookup.

The other side of the old window. What is to become some selves by the washer and dryer.

Not sure where these holes came from, but they weren't there when we bought the house.

They are fixed now.

No more door at the end of the hall.

A new door from the new Master bedroom into the new Master bathroom.

We are going to have two sinks. I am so excited!!

And a shower.

The shower will have a light.

The attach beam

Last time I posted I said I would add pictures of the beam in the attack. Well here they are. I can safely say that the house is going to stay as square as it was when it was built in 1904.

Now the ceiling in the bedroom is hanging from this beam in the attack.
We also had the plumbing, electrical and heating inspection.
